Senior Pastor James Chapman serves as the lead pastor and church planter for Cornerstone, which is located in Georgetown, Texas. Cornerstone is a non-denominational church where people from diverse backgrounds gather to glorify God each week by REACHING UP in praise and worship and REACHING OUT into the community. As a direct result, lives are being transformed through the leading spirit of God and His direction.
Possessing a sense of curiosity and sadness for those hurting and in need, James, at the age of 23, had his very own Isaiah 6 “send me” moment. He was called to dedicate his life to reaching and serving others with mercy and compassion. A calling whose fulfillment began with an increasing number of volunteer teaching positions within his local church including his community’s early service and small group ministries. Before long, James found himself sharing God’s gospel beyond the walls of the local church expanding to the inner city of San Jose, California, where he served as a teaching pastor and board member for City Teams Ministries and Meet the Challenge Ministries.
As a student at Western Seminary, James co-wrote “Bridging the Gap,” which is an examination of discipleship in the “Big C” or “Big Church.” It was widely disseminated on campus and to the surrounding church communities. The insights gained through prayer, peer dialog, and academic study of Christ’s teachings on discipleship are continuously and significantly featured in James’s ministries.
Following seminary, James served as Senior Pastor for a bay area Baptist and Mennonite Community Church before being called to Georgetown Texas to plant Cornerstone Church.
James is husband to Ginny of 14 years and father of their two children. He is active in local theater and sports including running, soccer, kickboxing, MMA, and cycling. The Chapman family is dedicated to elevating lives by growing in Christ, connecting to other believers, and serving the lost with the love of God’s spirit.
